We made it!!!  Thank you so much for your support.

As 2019 comes to a close, we can’t help but reflect upon this past year. Any animal rescue has its share of successes and difficulties, and some stories stick with you more than others.Tamara1 First is Tamara, who was rescued at 10 weeks old in the fall of 2018 after being attacked by another animal. She came to us with an infected wound on her neck, underweight, starving, dangerously dehydrated, and anemic as a result of fleas. She recovered over time, and then went to Mauhaus to find her forever home. Right when Tamara was about to get her happily ever after, Mauhaus employees noticed she wasn’t eating well. At the vet, she was diagnosed with Hepatic Lipidosis and pneumonia. She was given an IV to replenish fluids, monitored for a weekend, and then got a feeding tube. Her potential adopters took her home to tube feed her, and then formally adopted her once she was nursed back to health. “We fell in love with Tamara at the cafe, but as soon as we heard she was sickunnamed3
we knew we needed to help. It was hands down the hardest, and most rewarding experience we have had. She went up and down, but we could see her fighting the whole way, and Stray Haven stepped in to get her the help she needed every time. The day the feeding tube was removed Tamara was a whole new cat, and she has been eating and playing with no problems since. She loves wet food, string toys, and most up all cuddling up with her humans in her new home.”

Spirit

Another one of those cats is Spirit. We found him in Troy back in July, and he was in rough shape. We took him in, had his mats shaved off, his wounds treated, and we were working on putting some weight on him. His blood test showed early signs of kidney disease, but we were cautiously optimistic it would be OK. Unfortunately, after a couple of months in a safe home filled with love and good food, Spirit passed peacefully overnight with no warning.

While we cherish every success, sometimes it is the ones we don’t save that touch us the most. With 2020 drawing near, we think of what the year will bring and how much we need your help. While we will continue to save as many cats as we can, the cost of veterinary care each year continues to rise. We know we can’t save them all, but we never want rising costs to be the reason we can’t get to them in time.
